Dr Spencer YC Wu is a male General Dentist who speaks Cantonese and Mandarin (as well as English).
Dr Spencer Wu was born in Hong Kong in 1932. He was educated in St. Joseph’s College, Hong Kong before going to London for tertiary education in 1953. In 1955 he was admitted to Guy’s Hospital Dental School, London University. He was Assistant House Surgeon in his final year at Guy’s and competed successful to be a House Surgeon immediately after graduation.
Spencer was first registered on 17 March 1960 in London. Between 1960 to 1965 he took post graduate courses in Metal Partial Dentures, Periodontology and Crowns and Bridges in The Eastman Dundee University, Scotland. He practiced in Weybridge and Guildford, Surrey, England. He was a friend and locum for Dr. Drummond Jackson, one of the pioneers of IV sedation, in his practice in Wimpole Street, London when Dr Drummond Jackson went lecturing overseas.
Spencer returned to Hong Kong in 1970 to practice dentistry. In Hong Kong he established the Pioneer Dental Study Group, and published the Hong Kong Dental News which became The Far East Dental Journal later. Spencer was the editor of both the Dental News and The Far East Dental Journal. Jointly with Jardine Matheson, Spencer established the Oralux Dental Company. He also went to West Berlin to secure the agency of Quintessence magazine, covering the whole of Asia except Australia and Japan. In 1975 he went to Los Angeles, U.S.A. to study Ceramco Techniques. In July 1976 Spencer was invited to be one of four principle speakers at the Federation of Private Dental Practitioners of Philippines in Manila on N2 Endodontic Techniques. While he was in Hong Kong he was invited to join the Reform Club of Hong Kong, the Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts, and he was a committee member of Fight the Violent Crimes in the western district of Hong Kong, sponsored by the Royal Hong Kong Police.
In 1975 Spencer was invited to visit Sydney. On 17 February 1975 he was registered with the Dental Board of New South Wales, in order to help out an IV practitioner who fell seriously ill. Later in the same year he migrated to Sydney, where his service of Intravenous Sedation was much needed. His first practice was in King Street, Sydney CBD, until the building was demolished. Spencer attended the Spline Dental System in Melbourne in July 1997, the Nobel Biocare System in August 2004 and the Intermediate Level Course in Implant Therapy in May 2006. In April 2007 he attended the mini Dental Implant Introductory Workshop. In 2005, 2008 and 2011 he took the Invisalign Course at different levels.
In 1994 Spencer established a branch practice in Ashfield. He joined the Rotary Club there and the Ashfield Chamber of Commerce. In 1995 Spencer was elected the President of the Ashfield Council in September 1995. He won the election and became the first Chinese Councillor in Ashfield Municipality. In 1999, he left Council and formed the Citizens Community Care to continue serving the public. In 2003 Spencer was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal for service to the community.
