Dr Riaan Foot is a male Specialist Orthodontist who speaks Afrikaans (as well as English).

Dr Riaan Foot completed his undergraduate dental training at the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa in 2003. It was during his time as a student, whilst treating orthodontic patients in the student clinic, that he discovered a passion for orthodontics. He realised that the discipline of orthodontics had immense power, not only to improve smiles, but also to transform the lives of patients. He gained tremendous satisfaction from seeing the improvement in confidence and self esteem in young patients, following treatment and this inspired him to pursue a career in orthodontics.

Following graduation, Riaan started working in a busy private dental practice in East London. He also enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Interceptive Orthodontics at the University of the Western Cape, which he completed in 2005.

In 2007 Riaan relocated to Australia under a sponsorship from the Department of Oral Health Services Tasmania. During this year he also completed the primary examinations to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. In 2008 he completed the final examinations of the Australian Dental Council and was granted full Dental Board registration.

2009 saw Riaan accepted into the Orthodontic program at the University of Sydney, completing the course, Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics) in 2011.

During the Australian Society of Orthodontics (NSW) clinical day in 2011, Riaan received the prize for the best treated student case. He has also been awarded Membership to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Riaan has been fortunate enough to lecture both in Australia and abroad and was asked to join the University of Sydney faculty on a part time basis,following graduation, where he tutors and lectures to postgraduate students and general dentists enrolled in the Orthodontic long course.

He is currently a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, Australian Orthodontic Board and the World Federation of Orthodontists.

Riaan’s special interests include the use of Temporary anchorage devices to expedite treatment results, dentofacial orthopaedics and aesthetic adult treatment modalities.

Riaan is also a keen sportsman enjoying and pursuing a wide range of sports including; kite surfing, scuba diving, snowboarding, squash, rugby, distance running and golf.
