BDS (JCU), General Dentist
Dr Nicole A Mickan is a female General Dentist.
I moved to north Queensland in 2001 and could never imagine living anywhere else; I am a Queenslander by choice through and through! My family and I thoroughly enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of north Queensland, and being able to enjoy the outdoors all year round!
I became a dentist because I love working with people and I had a strong desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Being a dentist is such a rewarding profession, with each and every day I have the ability to improve someone’s quality of life. It is such a rewarding experience when someone walks in with a tooth ache and walks out pain-free. It is such an amazing feeling to create a smile that someone so deserves; a smile that rebuilds their confidence to go for that job, or a smile they are proud to show their kids or grandkids. I cherish my ability to create a smile that gives patients that confidence in their job interview, a smile that they feel so proud to show off on their wedding day, at the birth of their children or at that re-union. One of the best parts is, we can usually have this positive impact on people within hours of meeting them.
I enjoy a broad range of dental modalities; including paediatric dentistry, special needs, root canal therapy, oral surgery and restorative dentistry. My greatest passion lies in cosmetic dentistry, and rehabilitation of the oral cavity. I especially enjoy creating a new healthy and more youthful smile for my patients. I pride myself on my ability to calm those who suffer dental anxiety with my chatty, friendly personality that helps to place my patients at ease. I have a couple of rules in my surgery that also help; 1) You are not allowed to feel embarrassed 2) you are not allowed to feel guilty, and this one goes for the patient and the parents of my paediatric patients alike. When patients understand below this while coat I am simply a mum, a wife, and an everyday person with empathy and feelings just like them, they feel so much more at ease. For those who simply cannot be treated in the dental chair, whether due to over-whelming anxiety, or physical/intellectual reasons, I also provide dental treatment under general anaesthetic.
Every day I feel so blessed to have a profession and a team that I thoroughly enjoy and love. I thrive on a challenge and I strive to make a positive difference in the lives of those I am honoured to treat.
