Dr Nathan J Vujcich

Dr Nathan J Vujcich is a male Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.

Born and raised in Perth, Dr Vujcich completed both his Medical (2008) and Dental (2000) degrees with Honours at the University of Western Australia.

Prior to specialty training, he was awarded the (RACDS) FG Christensen prize for being the highest marked candidate in the RACDS primary exam in 2001. This international exam is a post graduate dental exam, sat by dental professionals wishing to further their education.

His earliest oral surgery training was as a service registrar in the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia’s Oral Surgery department.

Dr Vujcich completed his medical internship at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with rotations including Ear Nose and Throat surgery and Emergency Medicine. The following year involved his residency at Royal Perth Hospital with rotations in Ophthalmology, Ear Nose and Throat, Neurosurgery and Intensive Care.

As with all medical surgical trainees in Australia, Dr Vujcich completed the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons compulsory courses for basic surgical sciences (ASSET, EMST, CCrISP and CLEAR)

In 2007, Dr Vujcich was a visiting doctor in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Klinicka Bolnica Dubrava (Zagreb, Croatia). This was the major head and neck cancer hospital in Croatia, and run by the highly respected surgeon, Professor Miso Virag.

Dr Vujcich spent the majority of his 4 years of specialist Oral & Maxillofacial training in Western Australia at Fremantle, Royal Perth, Sir Charles Gairdner and Princess Margaret Hospitals. During this time, he gained significant experience in the management of complex facial trauma. His training also included 6 months in the Cranio-maxillofacial unit of the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne under Professor Andrew Heggie.

Upon completion of specialist training, Dr Vujcich undertook an additional fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital under Associate Professor Alf Nastri. This involved an emphasis on orthognathic (jaw) surgery and head and neck cancer surgery.

He then travelled to Switzerland and spent additional time at the ZMK (Bern University) to learn from global experts in the field of dental implantology. This was primarily spent with Dr Daniel Buser, a world renowned leader in the field. He also visited other European implant centres including Portugal (Malo clinic).

Upon return to Perth, Dr Vujcich joined the team at West Perth OMS and now splits his time between private and public practice.

His public roles include as a consultant surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where he is the head of the OMS service. Along with practice partner Dr Evan Kakulas, he maintains a special interest in paediatric (esp. trauma) Oral & Maxillofacial surgery.

Dr Vujcich is heavily involved with formal training of local surgery trainees and examines them for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Dr Vujcich has lectured at state, national and international levels to various groups including, dental, medical, surgical and anaesthetic groups.

He is currently the state representative for the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons – the specialties national political body.
