BOH (DentSci), Grad.Dip.Dent (Griffith), General Dentist
Dr Joyce Hsu is a female General Dentist who speaks Mandarin (as well as English).
Taiwan born and Brisbane bred; (with Mandarin my first language!) I graduated from Griffith University as a Dentist and have been busily gaining experience in the northern centres since. What attracted me to the dentistry field was apart from always having been interested in health, I liked the fact you could learn something in so much detail. Unlike other various medical fields, I didn’t have to choose between a surgical speciality and medical specialty – with dentistry you get to do both.
By far my favourite part of the job is being able to interact and work with patients on a regular basis, as I love to see them happy. I often get asked how being fairly young and female may influence my patients’ experience – and I find that a lot of patients are very comfortable with a female dentist and I try and be as gentle as possible.
After graduating I was attracted to Ayr, North Queensland for experience in a regional area, and was then drawn to Townsville for the laid back lifestyle. I feel my best skills are with anxious patients – as I can assure them and make them feel more comfortable.
