Dr Jonathan W Skilton is a male Specialist Orthodontist.
Dr Jonathan (Jon) Skilton has been involved in the specialty of Orthodontics since 2003 and is an expert in the field and shares the vision of creating beautiful, healthy smiles for his patients.
Jon undertook his dental degree at the University of Otago (New Zealand), graduating with numerous awards for clinical and academic excellence and with a keenly developed immunity to the cold. From there, he ventured to Far North Queensland, to work as a dentist in the government service in Cairns and the remote areas of The Sunshine State. Much of his work there involved flying into remote communities with the Royal Flying Doctor Service to provide dental care. Ask Jon about some of his experiences - he has a few good stories!
After his exciting adventures in the north, Jon joined the Graduate Program at the University of Melbourne to specialise in the field of Orthodontics. He graduated from this program with a published thesis and numerous awards and recognition for his research. Jon also gained the prestigious prize for Clinical Excellence from the Australasian Society of Orthodontists for presenting the best clinical cases as a student.
As Jon believes in continuing the quest for new knowledge and skills, he has acquired several additional qualifications, including a Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Orth), Membership in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Membership in the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is also a member of the World Federation of Orthodontists and the American Society of Orthodontists and is also an accredited Invisalign Orthodontist.
Jon is published in the dental literature, has presented at numerous events and teaches at both Melbourne and La Trobe Universities. He is a member of the Australian Dental Association, Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO), and is an executive committee member on the Give a Smile Board. Give a Smile is the charitable arm of the ASO and Give a Smile orthodontists like Jon carry out pro bono orthodontic treatment for at least one patient from the public dental sector a year. He regularly attends meetings and conferences to keep him at the forefront of modern orthodontic treatment and technology.
Although Jon is highly dedicated to the specialty of Orthodontics, he has always recognised the importance of a balanced lifestyle. He is a family man, and he and his wife Krystel enjoy gardening, cooking, travelling and relaxing with their little Scotty and Westie.
