Dr Ian P Sweeney is a male General Dentist.

Dr Sweeney graduated with honours from the University of Sydney in 1990 and holds postgraduate qualifications in the fields of implant dentistry as well as conscious sedation and pain control. He received his Masters degree in implant dentistry from the University of Melbourne in 2005.

Dr Sweeney is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons where he is also a board member who currently holds the position of NSW Regional Chairman.

He is a member of the:

  • Australian Dental Association
  • Academy of Osseointegration
  • American Academy of Osseointegration
  • Australian Prosthodontic Society
  • Society of Endodontology.

Dr Sweeney has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training, having held positions as examiner to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is currently a clinical mentor in the University of Sydney Graduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry course and a Senior Clinical Associate at the University of Sydney.

He has lectured on topics including:

  • Treatment planning
  • Implant placement
  • Implant placement in adolescents with Ectodermal Dysplasia and Cleft Lip and Palate
  • Self esteem
  • Psychological assessment of adolescents and self esteem
  • Conscious sedation.

Dr Sweeney has been involved in implant and bone dentistry and research since 1987 and has produced a number of publications on his work on bone augmentation, as well as implant placement in adolescents.

He worked at the Royal Children's Hospital of Melbourne for a number of years and has been involved in surgical and psychological studies investigating Osseointegration in children and young adults with Ectodermal Dysplasia and Cleft Lip and Palate.

Dr Sweeney has regular operating lists at the SAN Daycare Surgery and he is currently involved in research in the areas of dental phobia and pain management.
