Dr Berna YE Kim is a female Specialist Orthodontist who speaks Korean (as well as English).
Dr Berna Kim has over eight years of postgraduate experience, starting out as a general bernadentist at Surfers Paradise Dental Centre – the Gold Coast’s longest running dental clinic. At the practice, Dr Kim especially enjoyed seeing younger patients, and this led her to work closely with orthodontists in the area to provide optimal inter-disciplinary outcomes.
In 2010 she was one of three candidates selected into The University of Adelaide’s orthodontic specialist program, which was home to Dr Raymond Begg – one of the founders of modern orthodontics and the Begg Technique. At Victoria Park Dental Specialists, Dr McLean and Dr Kim continue his legacy by specialising in the Tip-Edge system.
During the three years of training and working as a registrar at Adelaide Dental Hospital, Dr Kim treated a wide variety of patients. She retains her hospital position, working there one day each week. Dr Kim also tutored undergraduate students in Orthodontics at the School of Dentistry, teaching both theory and practical to 3rd and 4th year students.
While studying, Dr Kim was awarded the Australian Postgraduate Award, a national scholarship awarded to students of exceptional research potential. In 2013, she completed her Doctorate thesis on Corticotomy-facilitated orthodontics which investigated the biological basis of speeding orthodontic tooth movement using surgical interventions.
In her final year, Dr Helen McLean, a final year tutor to the post-graduate students invited Dr Kim to join as an associate. As alumni of The University of Adelaide, they share philosophies on treatment strategies and outcomes.
