Dr Anastasia Bakopoulou has known Dr Nour Tarraf for a number of years now, from before she started her orthodontic training at the University of Sydney. They share a very similar treatment philosophy with great interest in early treatment and more importantly the correct timing of treatment in growing children, teens and adults. Furthermore, they use the latest technology to provide both technical and artistic skills which enable them to achieve outstanding aesthetic and functional results.
Dr Anastasia is originally from Caracas, Venezuela, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the Santa Maria University in 2007. She worked in private practice for several years before moving to Australia where she obtained her Master of Philosophy in Orthodontics at the University of Sydney in 2011, followed by a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry Degree in Orthodontics in 2014.
Since her early days as an orthodontic registrar at University, Dr Anastasia discovered a passion for teaching while contributing with undergraduate teaching within the dentistry and hygienist cohorts.
From 2015 to 2019, Dr Anastasia held the position of Clinical Educator in the Orthodontic Department of the University of Sydney. She was involved in the development and implementation of the Bachelor of Oral Health program within the orthodontic department where she taught the clinical and didactic component within this program. Additional teaching roles comprised orthodontic lectures for the Doctor of Dental Medicine cohort and clinical instructor for the Orthodontic Long Course for dental practitioners.
From 2017 to 2019, Dr Anastasia held a combined teaching and clinical specialist role at the Sydney Dental hospital where she contributed with the public waiting list screening, allocation and management of fairly complicated and mostly interdisciplinary cases.
Dr Anastasia is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) by examination, and a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists. She has submitted several scientific articles in the field of TADs and bone cements and has presented her research at professional meetings nationally and internationally.
Socially, Dr Anastasia enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and when the opportunity presents, volunteers in the UpClub social group for young adults with Down syndrome.
