DMD (WA), General Dentist
Dr Ruohan Zhang is a male General Dentist who speaks Mandarin (as well as English).
I believe the dental clinic should be a non-judgemental and non-intimidating environment, where it is truly rewarding to help anxious patients of all ages and experiences overcome their dental anxiety through a gentle approach and the latest atraumatic techniques.
Making children’s visits fun, especially their first, is something that always brightens my day.
Before trading in pipettes, Petri dishes and microscopes for a mouth mirror and probe, I was an avid biomedical researcher, spending countless hours in the lab and completing my Master’s in Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland (NZ). As face-to-face communication and real-time problem solving grew on me through diverse work experiences and parenthood, I ultimately found my passion in dentistry, where I can help patients throughout their dental journey to relieve pain, eat/speak effectively, maintain a healthy mouth and smile with confidence.
With the support of my wife and kids, I made the move to WA and completed my Doctor of Dental Medicine with Distinction in 2020 from the University of Western Australia.
The ability to utilise so many different aspects of maths, artistry, engineering, chemistry, and technology in providing care keeps every day interesting and while I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry, I am particularly fond of aesthetic restorations (fillings), prosthodontics (crowns and dentures) and oral surgery (extractions).
When I’m not with patients, I like to keep up to date with the latest in dentistry through regular professional development courses and participating in the dental community as a member of the Australian Dental Association of Western Australia. I have also had the opportunity to volunteer at organisations such as the Tzu Chi International Medical Association (Perth Branch), helping disadvantaged patients at their monthly weekend community dental clinics.
The privilege of being awarded numerous awards throughout my degree and both the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (top final year clinical performance) and Wynn Needham (1st overall final year grade) prizes drives me to be at the forefront of quality dentistry and to provide the best experience possible for my patients.
