Dip oral health therapy(hygiene), Dental Hygienist
Ms Kathleen A Colton is a female Dental Hygienist.
Kathleen Colton completed dental hygienist education at Melbourne University, and has served our patients since 1998. An integral part of our dental health team, Kathleen works with our dentists to devise well-rounded dental treatment plans that include professional hygiene components.
As a skilled hygienist, Kathleen helps our patients prevent oral disease, and provides necessary information that facilitates excellent at-home hygiene. She helps them recognise problems and care for teeth and gums properly in order to maintain optimal oral health.
Kathleen provides various treatments for gum disease and healthy teeth. She removes plaque in routine cleanings and provides deep cleaning of pockets to control gum disease (called root planing). Comfort is a priority, so local anesthetic may be used when necessary.
A key aspect to dental hygiene is education, and Kathleen takes patient education seriously. She explains dental diseases and oral care in a way that is easily understood, and can demonstrate proper oral care techniques for healthy teeth and gums, so that dental issues can be prevented or treated effectively. Kathleen also does saliva and caries testing in individuals who tend to experience a high instance of cavities. This process aids in the prevention of further cavity development.
Kathleen is also a valuable assistant to Dr. Rose, taking impressions and preparing teeth for orthodontic treatment.
